A Reflection On Clinical Interventions - 1608 Words

Clinical Interventions If every hurt we have has a dose of shame and distorts our view of who we are it makes sense that contradicting the internalized hurt would assist in undoing the messages that keep many people stuck. Most of these hurts run deep; I imagine that it would take years to undo a lot of this work. My peer counseling partner seemed to be impacted by her level of hope and her lack of belief that she can effectively control the course of her life. She is not unaware of the difficulties of breaking out of poverty. In addition, I am aware of the reality of how incredibly challenging it is to break the out of the class you were born into. With that said, it was difficult for me to challenge her on it. It may not ever get better. However, the first demonstration we did involved scanning. At this point, we focused on her class oppression, but I wish I would have thought to bring in more of her oppression related to her being Jewish. Despite that, the demonstration w as insightful for both of us. It brought back stuff that she had forgotten about, and it gave me a clearer picture of what her oppression looks like. If nothing else, I created a safe space for her to talk about her struggles with classism. She was certainly seen and heard. She often feels like she can â€Å"pass†, so bringing her hurts into the open was a contradiction. She wasn’t hiding when she was with me. Throughout our time together there was a lot of countertransference in the room.Show MoreRelatedA Synthesis Of Supervision Definitions Proposed By Lambie And Sias1449 Words   |  6 PagesClinical counseling supervision has an integral role in the professional and personal development of counselors-in-training, referred to here as supervisees. Logical and Physical Network Design Free Essays

Introduction This paper presents a brief overview of what goes into a Service Level Agreement (SLA) contract. It also presents an example of one. Contents This publication contains the following topics: Topic Why Have Service Level Agreements? Contract Areas to Consider Contract Components Example Of A Service Level Agreement Contract See Page 2 3 6 8 -1- Why Have Service Level Agreements? Rationale SLAs are critical towards formalizing expectations around services with end users and customers. We will write a custom essay sample on Logical and Physical Network Design or any similar topic only for you Order Now Without these, customer expectations will assume that everything will be delivered and available at a 100% level all the time. Very little can be done about poor service when there is no definition what good service is. Objectives should be set that describe items such as response times, availability, turnaround and accuracy. Customers and IT should commit to a mutually acceptable means of verifying compliance with service objectives and agree on actions that must take place when exceptions occur. Key Goals Key goals of undertaking formalized service arrangements are as follows: †¢ Allow for IT to understand customer service requirements. †¢ Control customer expectations for levels of service to be delivered. Allow for clear understanding of priorities when handling service problems. -2- Contract Areas to Consider Overview The following section presents a number of key areas to consider when building SLA Contract documents. Level of Formalization Service levels may range from a formalized contract that is signed off by representative customer departments to informal â€Å"known† levels internal to IT functions. IT should be aware which level of formalization is appropriate. Ability to Meet Service Targets IT should ensure that documented levels of service can indeed be met. Targets should allow for a latitude contingency to cover occasional problems or slowdowns to occur without jeopardizing targets. Within ITIL, Availability Management should review planned targets and provide guidance as to what levels may be appropriate given current IT capabilities. Requirements for new capabilities should be highlighted to management to determine whether to invest in them or not. Control of Customer Expectations Targets should be communicated to customers in terms that make them clearly understood from their perspective. This promotes a good level of understanding and cooperation when service problems do occur. Handling SLA Contract Changes Processes should be in place to handle changes in service requirements. Customers may wish to negotiate better service levels, add new functions that require new levels of service or periodically renew current levels. These should be negotiated through a Service Level Manager and processed via Change Management. Number of SLA Contracts Less is better, more greatly increases management overhead to report and manage. It may be determined to have a single contract for all departments versus multiple service contracts for different departments. Another structure may be to have a base agreement that covers everyone as a default with a limited set of overriding contracts for unique needs. Continued on next page -3- Contract Areas to Consider, Continued Types of Service Targets to Be Included The types of service targets to be provided should be identified in the service level contract. Examples of types of service targets include items such as: †¢ Response Times †¢ Availability Windows †¢ Equipment Service And Repair Times †¢ Technical Support Response and Level †¢ Report Or Other Media Delivery †¢ Security Access †¢ Data Retention and Backup Requirements Determining Customer Services It will be necessary to identify what critical customer workloads are. From this a specific service level can be derived. Workloads can be defined as one or more customer functions that require service from IT. Examples of these might include items such as: †¢ Processing patient accounts in a hospital. †¢ Entering orders from customers on a phone. †¢ Accessing E-Mail. †¢ Retrieving and creating memos. Each of the above have an associated level of service that allows that function to be accomplished successfully. This level might include availability of service to that function. (i. ; E-Mail will be available from 8AM to 9PM on weekdays). It might also include a level of response. (i. e; Order Entry transactions on a terminal must provide a response time less than 5 seconds 85% of the time). Most organizations have found it helpful to implement an ITIL Service Catalog to better define what these services are. With this, the SLA contract would only need to reference those service descriptions. The Catalog can also serve to centralize all of these definitions in one place. Multiple Targets For Services It may desired to provide or negotiate multiple service levels for a single customer service. An example of this might be negotiating a lower response time for peak hours of the day and a higher response time at other hours. Another example might be provision of high availability all the time but specific functions or files may be unavailable at certain times of the day. Continued on next page -4- Contract Areas to Consider, Continued Resolution of Service Disputes It may be desired to put a process in place that fairly identifies resolutions to problems or misunderstandings in service expectations. This may be a committee of representative Customer and IT personnel without a direct interest in the problems under discussion. Operational Level Agreements and Underpinning Contracts In an environment where the service to be delivered is provided by multiple departments, organizations or outside vendors, service boundaries must be clearly defined. This identifies where responsibilities lie and what kinds of services have to be delivered by each service delivery entity. An example of this might include a client/server architected application where end user response time service consists of both mainframe processing and server/front-end processing. If these two components are managed by ifferent organizations, then each organization should set up an operational level agreement. As an example of the above, mainframe response time targets will be under 5 seconds 85% of the time, server processing will be under 3 seconds 80% of the time. This would result in the actual service level to the customer of a response time less than 8 seconds 80% of the time. Service Targets Must Be Reportable Any service level that is set must be able to be adequately reported on. It would be useless to establish a service level for which monitoring data cannot be collected. The operational efforts and costs involved with monitoring and reporting on any given service level should be taken into account when that level is set. -5- Contract Components Overview A Service Level Contract is a key component of a formalized service level agreement process. Key components of this document are described in this section. Contract Dates Starting and ending dates that the contract is to be in force. If ending dates are specified, new service level agreements may have to be created for projects or departments that function beyond the end dates. Contract Numbers These may be necessary if negotiating multiple contracts. They simply identify specific contracts. Customer Identification Identifying information that describes the group of users who are included within the scope of the contract. Demand Periods It is helpful to identify periods of time in which types of use are likely to make the greatest service demands on processing resources. Some targets may differ depending on demand periods. For example, an E-Mail service may have a lesser target for response time during the start of work when most employees retrieve their messages. There may be a higher target for slower periods later in the day. Project or Departmental Description A brief description of the department or project to be serviced. This may include its main purpose or business function and how processing supports the goals of that entity. Expected Service Requirements A description in clear concise terms of the service level targets to be delivered by IT to support the department(s) or project(s) covered by the service contract. These should be in business terms and from the customer perspective as much as possible. Continued on next page -6- Contract Components, Continued Service Assumptions If needed, this section can be included to describe any service assumptions used to support the service levels being delivered. Examples might include: †¢ A set number of customer users not to be exceeded †¢ Specific IT capacities that might incur additional costs if exceeded †¢ Allowances for special times of the day, week, month or year Target Calculations Methodologies or calculations used to determine service expectations should be documented. The purpose is to clearly state how service levels may be calculated, measured and reported on. IT Charging Costs Any assumptions or expected costs of delivering the service should also be documented. Determination of costs is aided by the Capacity Planning and Financial Management processes. In some cases, it may be necessary to include a sample charging bill. Contract Maintenance This section should describe the conditions under which the contract should be changed. It should identify who is responsible for reporting on the quality of service delivered and how service disputes may be resolved. Contract Responsibilities This section should identify organizations or personnel responsible for support activities related to Contract Maintenance, Service Level Reporting, Service Level Dispute Resolution and Renegotiation of Service Levels. Signature Block This section provides space for Customer and IT sign-off to the terms in the contract. -7- Example Of A Service Level Agreement Contract Introduction The following pages present one example of a comprehensive Service Level Agreement contract. This example is probably much more formalized than necessary but illustrates some of the concepts discussed in this paper. The Atomic Bomb Flashed Above Hiroshima Essay Example For Students

The Atomic Bomb Flashed Above Hiroshima Essay Hiroshima is the capital of Hiroshima Prefecture, southwestern Honshu, Japan. Hiroshima has warm, humid summers with July temperatures. Hiroshima caught the attention of the world when a U.S. plane dropped the first atomic bomb on the City, destroying it on August 6,1945. The Atomic bomb blast in 1945 obliterated three- fifths of the city within seconds and killed about 75,000 people. At exactly fifteen minutes past eight in the mourning, on August 6, 1945 Japanese time, at the moment when The Atomic Bomb Flashed Above Hiroshima Essay. At the time of the blast:Mrs.Huts Nakamura, a tailors widow stood by the window of her kitchen, watching a neighbor tearing down his house because it laid in path of an air-raid defense free lane . Mrs. Huts Nakamura, who lived in the section called Nobori-Cho got her three children, a ten year old boy,Toshio, an eight year old girl yoke, and a five year old girl, Mohawk out of bed and dressed them and walked with them to the Military area known as the East Parade Ground. There she unrolled some mats and the children laid down on them. They slept until about two, when they were awakened by the roar of the planes going over Hiroshima. As soon as the planes had passed, mars.Nakamura started back with her children. They reached home a little after two-thirty and she immediately turned on the radio, which was broadcasting a fresh warning. She put the children in their bedrolls on the floor, laid down herself at three oclock, and fell asleep at once. The siren jarred her awake at about seven oclock, she arose and hurried to the house of Mr.Nakamoto, the head of her neighborhood Association and asked him what she should do. He told her to remain at home unless an urgent warning. The Prefectural Government convinced, everyone in Hiroshima that the city would be attacked. Their house was 1,350 yards or three-quarters of a mile, from the center of the explosion. Timbers fell around her as she landed and a shower of tiles also fell on her; everything became dark and she became buried. She heard a child cry Mother, help me! and she saw her youngest child, Mohawk the five year old buried up to her chest and unable to move. As Mrs.Nakamura started Frantically to claw her way toward the baby, she couldnt see or hear anything of her other children. Mrs.Nakamura always was a strong person, she never thought of the worst and always hoped for the best. Here is an example of her strength, Mrs. Nakamura, although she was too ill to walk she managed to return to Hiroshima alone, by electric car to the outskirts, by foot from there. Mrs.Nakamura cared for her children and everyone else. Her attitude was always pushing for the good never wanting to give up. Mrs.Nakamura said,(she needed nothing more to make her give up thinking, in spite of the atomic bomb, that Japan still had a chance to win the war). Mrs.Nakamura helped everyone through this time including herself. Weakness occurred after the bomb had dropped. Mrs.Nakamura, who had suffered no cuts or burns at all, though she had been rather nauseated all through the week she and her children had spent as guests of Father Kleinsorge and the other Catholics at the Novitlate. Mrs. Nakamura began fixing her hair and noticed, after one stroke through her hair, that her comb carried with it a whole handful of hair. Three or four days past, she became bald and began living indoors, practically hiding. Mrs.Nakamura daughter, Mohawk woke up feeling week and tired and they both stayed on their bedrolls. Her son and other daughter, who had shared every experience with her during the after bombing, felt fine. They did not realize it, but they were coming down with the strange, capricious disease which became known as radiation sickness. .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0 , .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0 .postImageUrl , .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0 , .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0:hover , .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0:visited , .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0:active { border:0!important; } .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0:active , .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0 .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ubf91873d2e8510a95029cfce0168b6b0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Bosnia-Herzegovina genocide Essay Mrs.Nakamura laid indoors with Mohawk. The topic of nature in 17th Century poetry Essay Example

The topic of nature in 17th Century poetry Paper The topic of nature is present in a number of the poems of the seventeenth century writers John Milton and Andrew Marvell. Indeed, in Marvells The Garden and The Mower Against Gardens, nature is arguably the central theme, and in Miltons Paradise Lost, the natural world is referred to throughout. However, when one considers that it is essential to think about the historical context- politically, religiously- and the ideological leanings of the writers of the seventeenth century when looking at works from that era, the theme of nature is present in these works to serve as more than a tribute to nature itself; nature is used also to allude to various theological and political ideals present at the time. When thinking about the theme of nature in seventeenth century poetry, Andrew Marvells The Garden is arguably the first work to spring to mind, as the poem is essentially a detailed description of a garden, and the various natural wonders within. However, a closer reading of the poem reveals the various political, classical and religious messages hidden inside Marvells Garden. Indeed, the very subject of gardens and gardening was a contentious one in seventeenth century England; changing Gods landscape by gardening was seen by Puritans to be counter religious. With this in mind, the poem has already given us a point to consider: what sort of garden was Marvell praising, and what does this garden represent? The first stanza alone contains enough imagery to make it clear that this garden is representing a number of political and religious ideas. The vanity of man, the desire to achieve the unachievable, is referred to in the very first line: How vainly men themselves amaze. Military, civic, and poetic ambition are represented by the palm, the oak, or bays, and there are clear connections here to the English revolution. There is the idea that people put themselves through much toil to win little recognition, when far more could be gained with no toil at all: And their incessant Labours see Crownd from some single Herb or Tree, Whose short and narrow verged shade Does prudently their Toyles upbraid; While all Flowrs and all Trees do close To weave the Garlands of repose. As Lawrence W. Hyman wrote, it is Marvells awareness of the futility of human passion and ambition that makes him forsake society for the solitude, innocence and beauty of nature1 . The second stanza reinforces this idea: Fair quiet, have I found thee here, / And innocence, thy sister dear? , and the superiority of the garden compared to the society Marvell lives in is made clear when he states that he has been unable to find the innocence and calm he seeks In busy companies of men. Here we have the notion of a return to Eden from a postlapsarian, vain world; the fact that the plants are scared adds to this. The senses are evoked, as is the concept of fulfillment and the fertility of nature, by the solitude of the garden being described as delicious. Marvell then compares the beauty of the garden to that of a woman, No white nor red was ever seen/ so amorous as this lovely green, red and white being colours of femininity. Suggestions of misogyny perhaps stem from this third stanza, in which Marvell also states that no female can compare to the garden, and there is the intimation that Marvell would indeed rather embrace a tree than a woman, Fair trees! Whereeer your bark I wound. The fact that Marvell never married (the woman claiming to be his widow was apparently his housekeeper)2, along with the imagery present in this stanza offer us an insight into his view of women. The concept of an almost romantic love of nature continues into the forth stanza. Marvell implies that love is destined to fade When we have run our passions heat, and points out, with a classical reference, that even the gods ultimately value the beauty of nature over that of women. The story of Apollo and Daphne, from Ovids Metamorphoses, in which the god Apollo pursued Daphne until she transformed herself into a laurel tree, is used, and there is also a reference to Pan and Syrinx, a similar classical story. Marvell suggests here that the gods were only ever interested in the plants, not the women3. The fifth stanza contains perhaps the most natural imagery in the entire poem, and returns to the concept of fertility and life-giving nature, of another Eden. The garden is feeding Marvell in the line Ripe apples drop about my head, and the verdant descriptions of the gardens other vegetation again evoke the senses. There is also the notion of carelessness and ease; the nectarines and peaches are reaching themselves into Marvells hand, he only stumbles on melons, and the only thing to fall upon in grass. We are then introduced to the concept of hortus mentis, or garden of the mind, when Marvell writes, Meanwhile the mind, from pleasure less, /Withdraws into its happiness; the mind has left the garden, and withdrawn into itself, such is the tranquility and simplicity offered by the garden. Here Marvell is following the neo-Platonic philosophy present at the time. Continuing on from this, Marvell writes that the garden has freed the soul from the confines of the body, Casting the bodys vest aside, /My soul into the boughs does glide. Again this suggests a return to Eden, a loss of mortality, and the soul is also given an almost angelic quality, Then whets and combs its silver wings. The end of the poem describes an actual return to Eden, and again contains a hint of misogyny. When Marvell states, Such was that happy garden-state, /While man there walked without a mate, he is describing the past, the Garden of Eden, rather than the garden he has so far been speaking about. He is also suggesting that man was better off without a mate; without women. The final line of the poem again praises the peace of the garden, and states that that peace could be found nowhere else in the world in which he lived. In both Marvells The Garden and The Mower Against Gardens, the primary terms in opposition are the same: the worlds of nature and men. However, whilst in The Garden, the garden is a place of leisure, solace and tranquility, The Mower Against Gardens presents the garden as a place of endless toil and struggle. The relationship between the two poems is more complex than the mere conflict suggested by their titles: although the terms of the argument are constant between them, the value given to them shifts; the status of labour, leisure, and nature is different in each. Arguably, another difference is the tone of the two poems. Whilst one seems heartfelt in its argument, the other is almost self mocking. The very first line of The Mower Against Gardens presents the opposed terms of the poems argument, Luxurious man, to bring his vice in use, /Did after him the world seduce. Here Marvell is stating that it is not mans practice of his vices that corrupts, it is rather his determination to distort the world to follow his vice, to alter nature to reflect himself. This provides both an insight into Marvells views on gardening, of which, as stated earlier, he was often critical, and a further insight into what kind of garden is being represented in The Garden; it is not a man made space with mown grass and pruned hedges, it is a natural, uncultivated place. Also, this argument is representative of a more common moral issue; the true danger of immorality lies not in its practice by an individual, but in its transmission to others. This transmission comes about through careful perversion of nature, this passage argues, and its effects are as the corrupt man desires, The pink grew then as double in his mind; nature is reflecting the tainted man. Whilst in the first movement of the poem there is a sense of straying from nature, of knowingly perverting the earth, in line 22 a different kind of corruption is introduced. The use of forbidden suggests not only a moral lapse; it implies law, concrete rules whose breaking deserves punishment from a higher authority than man, however sovereign man has become, or thinks he has become. Indeed, the use of sovereign here seems almost ironic. This passage of the poem suggests that not only has nature been altered by man, its very essence has also been corrupted, No plant now knew the stock from which it came; / He grafts upon the wild the tame. To make matters worse, this transgression, this loss of origin, is frivolous, and not even intended to be of any benefit to man, but to rather cause dispute. This implies that not even pleasure governs mans behavior, but novelty. There is also the idea that mans distortion has become a religious transgression with the entrance on his green seraglio. In conclusion, it is clear that in Andrew Marvells The Garden and The Mower Against Gardens, nature is used for far more than a description of nature itself. The conflicting viewpoints of both poems are presented through the use of nature, which is used to allude to various religious, social and, political ideas, and it is only when both poems are read in the context of the time in which they were written that we can recognize these ideas.

Should violent sexual offenders be quarantined essays

Should violent sexual offenders be quarantined essays Albert Bandura was born on December 24, 1925, in northern Alberta, Canada. He was the youngest child and only boy in his family. His parents had no real formal education, but placed a high value on educational achievement. For example, his father taught himself to read three languages: Polish, Russian, and German (Albert Bandura Biographical Sketch 2002). Bandura received his M.A. degree in 1951 and his PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Iowa in 1952. In 1953, Bandura joined the faculty at Stanford University, where he has remained ever since. When Bandura first graduated his studies were behavior based. As he went on with his studies he found that behaviorism was not really his thing and that he was interested more along the lines of learning. Most of his work focuses on the nature of observational learning. Observational or Social Learning Theory is one theory that Albert Bandura is well known for. The Social Learning Theory is the belief that aggression is learned through behavior modeling. Bandura believed that children especially model behavior through observing others personally or through the media and environment. Bandura and his colleagues found that viewing aggression through cartoon characters produces more aggressive behavior than viewing live or filmed aggression through adults (Albert Bandura, 2003). There are four major components of the Social Learning Theory; Attention, Retention, Motor Reproduction, and Motivation/Reinforcement. Attention is when the observer notices something in the environment. Retention is when the observer remembers what was noticed. Motor Reproduction is when the observer produces some kind of action to copy what was noticed (Albert Bandura, 2003). Motivation or Reinforcement is the consequence the environment delivers that will predict if the behavior will be performed again. Because I have a child everyday I see the affects of modeling ...

Americanization in Denmark Sample

Americanization in Denmark Sample Essay The American linguistic communication is today one of the most popular spoken linguistic communication worldwide. With merely Chinese being superior to the American linguistic communication. it is no admiration why the linguistic communication. civilization and manner has quickly sneaked up on Denmark. and has started to impact the native linguistic communications of the state. We hear or read words and vocals from America every twenty-four hours. It could be a song playing in the wireless. or a label on a dish washer. and we don’t even think about it being American. A Danish author called Dan Turell one time said when he was speaking about his young person and the alterations in the Danish community. â€Å"USA was like the large brother of Denmark† . Globalization is besides a hot topic when speaking about the Americanization. What are the menaces and possibilities that globalization holds for us and the remainder of the universe? Easy communicating all over the univer se is one facet of globalisation. This appears to be a good thing but many bad things can come out of it. Of class planetary trading and negotiating is a good thing. China can portion their cognition and scientific discipline with USA and frailty versa. But terrorists can besides work the planetary communicating for illustration the presents pirates in Somalia. They can nobble some Danes and reach the Danish constabulary or authorities and inquire for a ransom. Globalization besides leads to the universe â€Å"shrinking† . Cultures will be more likewise because it is so easy to go to the other side of the universe and learn from other civilizations. purchase their nutrient or points and follow it in to your ain civilization. This can in worst instance scenario stop up with holding a universe that is the same no affair where you go. It doesn’t affair if you are in China or in Mexico. American words and sentences has for a long clip. been adopted into the Danish linguistic communication. At a immature age the Danes learn English at simple school. Therefore the linguistic communication is accepted and known by a batch of Danes. The Danes use a batch of American words like screw. download. Walkman and other words they don’t see American because they have been in the Danish vocabulary for so long. The Danish civilization is being Americanized non merely by words and sentences but with vocals excessively. As an illustration of this I have chosen the Danish pop-band Nephew’s vocal â€Å"Va Fangool! † – Which is an American slang for â€Å"fuck you† They start the vocal by singing in Danish. but with a few grammatical errors. In the center of the first poetry they sing â€Å"you know what I mean† which isn’t Danish. but American. They besides sing the chorus and the whole 2nd poetry in American before they switch back to Danish in the last chorus. merely to complete it off with some more American vocalizing. When you hear the music you know that the American portion is in another linguistic communication. but you don’t believe about because you know the linguistic communication and you understand the phrases. In the music picture. they show a fish called â€Å"Big Mouth Billy Bass† who is a fish that sings when you pass by it. It was really popular in Denmark in the late ninetiess and early 2000s. The fish American ginseng a few American vocals like â€Å"Don’t concern. be happy† by Bobby McFerrin. The Danes started purchasing this â€Å"singing fish† and placed it in their life suites. The vocal. along with the fish. shows clear marks of Americanization. And the managers doing the picture all know excessively good what they are making. And it’s no happenstance why they place the fish in the picture. American music picture shapers are teaming up with make-ups creative person and a batch of other professionals to do their music pictures appealing to the whole universe. And the Danes pick up inspiration. manner. and civilizations from rap-artists. theoretical accounts and athleticss stars. This besides distributes to the Americanization in Denmark. The Dan es start have oning â€Å"bling bling† ( expensive shiny jewelry and tickers ) like the blame stars 50cent and Snoop Dogg do. They talk the same slang and they look up to the stars. READ: The Influence of My Parents EssayThe Americanization has merely started and we will get down to see a batch more of this in the hereafter. Already now it can be difficult to state the difference between an American adolescent and a Danish adolescent by looking at their apparels and jewellery. The Americanization has been successful because USA working hard on spread outing globally by advancing themselves. Globalization is an uneven thing. it fascinates me how there can be so large of a difference between the wealth and wretchedness of different states. Many people are afraid of globalisation but I think we should encompass it and portion the wealth all over the universe to do it equal. to organize peace and to separate poorness and wretchedness. I don’t believe any continent should hold the ability. fiscal wise to rule the universe.

Does the rotation of auditors improve the quality of auditing Essay - 6

Does the rotation of auditors improve the quality of auditing - Essay Example Rotation of auditors has also been argued to facilitate business organisations in developing better transparency in their financial reports. Moreover, auditor rotation is identified as a process assisting in better flow of information. Rotation also ascertains that the financial statements of a business organisation are reviewed frequently. In this manner, auditor rotation develops an increased accountability along with independence amid auditors. However, the policy of auditor rotation is identified to affect the audit quality to a substantial extent, as auditors with time span are aware of the risks and credibility that a business organisation is attached with. It is also ascertained that there are certain business organisations adopting the policy of auditor rotation, which are seemed to increase complexities as well as cost due to rotation during important business transactions (Whitehouse, 2013). In this regard, the essay emphasizes the audit quality and the policy of rotation o f auditors. Moreover, the essay discusses about the issues that are addressed by auditors’ rotation and explains the advantages and disadvantages associated with the policy of auditors’ rotation. Discussion Defining Audit Quality In the present business scenario, financial reports of companies are deemed to be quite essential elements of identifying the performances of business organisations. In this regard, both internal as well as external auditors play effective role in the preparation of financial reports suitably (Arrunada & Paz-Ares, 1997). Contextually, audit quality has emerged as an important aspect in relation to the audited financial reports that are prepared and presented. It is therefore deemed to be the auditors’ responsibility to discover as well as identify the shortcomings in the accounting system of an organisation in order to ensure that financial reports are prepared systematically and appropriately (Velte & Stiglbauer, 2012). Correspondingly , the policy of audit quality is generally argued as based on three important factors, which include disclosure of appropriate financial statements, ascertaining that the internal control system of an organisation is efficient and provide adequate warnings in case of frauds and misrepresentations (PCAOB, 2013). The Issue that are Addressed by ‘Rotation of Auditors’ The policy of rotation of auditors is thereby adopted by business organisations with the objective of ascertaining that financial reports are prepared and disclosed appropriately ascertaining better audit quality. The policy has been adopted in order to minimise the barrier of over-familiarity that may develop amid the management of an organisation and auditors with time. In this respect, business organisations have adopted this policy in order to safeguard and protect the interests as well as confidence of investors by ensuring that quality audited financial reports are disclosed every year, representing a r eliable information reflecting the current financial position of the company. The utmost objective of rotation of auditors is accordingly, to ascertain that auditing operations are performed effectively in order to enhance audit quality (PWC, 2013). In this regard, it can be comprehended

Grapes Of Wrath Essay -- essays research papers fc

John Steinbeck uses symbolism to enrich his writing. Several of these symbols can be found in his book, The Grapes of Wrath. The Joad’s, a family from Oklahoma, are in search of a better life. They leave their home in journey to California because of the dust bowl. The symbols in the book are the dust, the turtle, names of people, and the grapes. These symbols give the reader an additional perspective of the book. Dust represents life and death. Dust makes a mess of things and leaves possessions under a mucky film. The farming in Oklahoma becomes difficult because the heavy winds uplift the soil and carry it great distances. Then the farmers are left with no soil to grow their crops. The Joad’s livelihood depends on the soil. If the soil is rich, then it will feed hundreds. But if the soil is dry, it destroys crops and causes famine. The dust covers Oklahoma and leaves the Joad family with no other choice, but to move. The Joad’s journey to California is as slow as a turtle. Heat in the desert, car problems, and the death of the grandparents make the journey long and painful. A turtle shelters himself by pulling his head, legs, and tail inside his shell. The Joad’s gather together as a family to comfort and shelter themselves. A turtle feels safe when it enters his shell and the Joad’s feel safe when they gather as a family. There is symbolic significance in the names of characters throughout The Grapes of Wrath. Tom, one of the main characters, is hitchhiking home when he stumbles upon a preacher by the name of Jim Casey. Jim baptized Tom, but now he is no longer preaching because he has found that everything is holy and man needs no preacher. His initials are J.C. which are the same as Jesus Christ. Jim shows similar characteristics to Jesus Christ. He sacrifices himself for Tom. Tom has caused a deputy to loose his suspect and is said to be under arrest, but Casey steps in and takes the blame. â€Å"It was me, alright† (p.364). Casey is taken by two deputies, but appears to be proud because he knows he has done the right thing. â€Å"Between his guards Casey sat proudly, his head up and the stringy muscles of his neck prominent† (p.364). He gives up his freedom so the Joad’s can accomplish their dreams as a family. Tom then meets Muley Graves, an old neighbor. Muley shows animal like characteristics and acts like a mule. Just like a mule, Muley is stubborn. ... ...ouldn’t share. â€Å"So Ruthie got mad an’ chased ‘em, an’ she fit one, an’ then she fit another, an’ then one big girl got up an’ licked her† (p.563). Although she appears to be strong in reality she is weak . Grapes are the fruit of the vine; something sweet. But in actuality for the Joad’s they are a disappointment. The Joad’s talk about them as being this wonderful fruit that will bring them a better life. They will pick the grapes and earn money. But as they stare at the open fields they realize that it is all just a dream. There are no grapes. They continuously think of the grapes as an escape from their depression. The grapes would be so fruitful that they would be able to bathe in the sweetness, but in their case it turns out completely different. Discussing the symbols of the dust, the turtle, the names, and the grapes makes the reader aware of another aspect of the story. The reader is able to realize just how well Steinbeck is able to bring his stories to life. As a reader you learn to appreciate his style of writing. Once you read his books you realize that he is not only a author, but an artist too. Bibliography the symbols in the Grapes of Wrath Word Count: 1716

Causes and the Course of the US Civil War Essay

The American Civil War created the nation of the United States as we know it today. The bloodiest war in the history of the nation, the victory was a combination of many factors and many battles that finally resulted in a Union victory. But why would a nation engage in combat so fiercely that more Americans were lost in the one war than in the American Revolution, WW1, WW2 and the Vietnam War combined? The main cause of the American Civil War was slavery. According to historian David Goldfield, â€Å"Both Northerners and Southerners recognized slavery as the immediate cause of the Civil War† and even Abraham Lincoln acknowledged this fact in his second inaugural address by saying, â€Å"An eighth of the whole population were coloured slaves, not distributed generally over the Union, but localized in the Southern part of it. These slaves constituted a peculiar and powerful interest – all knew that this interest was somehow the cause of the war.† The Civil War was fought between 1861 and 1865 between two sides – the anti-slavery, northern Union and the pro-slavery, southern Confederate States of America. The southern states’ economies and social structures were built entirely on the concept of slavery – slavery was fundamental to the entire economic and social existence. The upper class’s riches were all earned from the cotton plantati ons that provided two-thirds of the world’s cotton crop, all worked by slave labour. When the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 eventually freed the slaves, the southern states’ economies and social structures were literally turned upside down – the South lost half its capital wealth in an instant. Aside from slavery, there were several minor causes of the Civil War, including the concept of agriculture versus industry and the states’ rights to freedom from the tyranny of an overarching federal government, but these cannot be argued as the main cause of the war. If so, the war would have erupted in the 1830s with the Nullification Crisis, when President Andrew Jackson stated that South Carolina could not declare a federal tax null in their state. In reality, the Confederate government was quite demanding of its citizens, through passing the first conscription Act in the Americas, implementing national taxes, creating a national currency and having a national bureaucracy of 70 000 or more. But governmental reasons for going  to war differed from those of the soldiers. Each soldier likely had a prosaic reason for enlisting, for example, one Alabamian only enlisted after his girlfriend sent him a dress and told him that he should start wearing it if he was not willing to fight for his country. Religion also paid a main role in the Civil War – the Protestant North was high motivated to support combat if it preserved their states, ended slavery and promoted their religious denomination. Throughout the Civil War, there were numerous battles fought all across the nation, bringing the death toll to a total of 680 000. Unknown to most modern-day Americans, for the first year of the war, it seemed that the Confederates had secured a definitive victory. South Carolina had begun the war by attacking Fort Sumter. Three months later, the South then shockingly arose triumphant at the First Battle of Bull Run in Manassas, Virginia. Robert E. Lee (the commander of the Southern military) had highly energized, disciplined and trained soldiers who were fighting on home turf in Virginia on the Eastern front. The North, on the other hand, still believed that the war would be over quickly, and therefore, their soldiers were not so motivated to fight. The next major event of the war was the huge Union victory at the Battle of Shiloh near Pittsburg Landing. This area was key as it was the crossroads of the Confederates’ two main railroads. 44 000 of General Ulysses S. Grant†™s command were amassed in camps around this area and were attacked at night by the Southern soldiers. Schermann, one of Grant’s underlings, heard a noise and went out to investigate, only to realise that the entire Union force in the area was under attack. Lasting all day, and beginning the next at daybreak, the leaders had only a small Methodist chapel in which to convene to discuss potential rapid strategizing. Due to the Southerners’ element of surprise and the Northerners’ superior force, it became the most costly battle of the war to date with 23 000 dead, injured or captured, and with around equal numbers on both sides. It was then the South were to suffer a great defeat at the Battle of Antietum – Lee marched a force of 40 000 strong to Maryland on 4th September, 1862, only to be met with huge numbers of General George McClellan’s troops. 23 000 were killed in a single day, and General Lee was forced to retreat back to Virginia. After these major humiliations, it was  months before the first real turning point of the war when the tide began to turn towards a Union success. Although politically the Union made some impact with the release of the Emancipation Proclamation on 1st January, 1863, in reali ty, there was little change in the secessionist states and the war dragged onwards. An excellent execution of division tactics by Lee resulted in a Confederate victory over the new Union commander Hooker at the Battle of the Wilderness, but at a cost of 24 000 casualties. From May to July 1863, Grant laid siege to the city of Vicksburg, Mississippi, starving the population and firing shots at any soldiers who appeared on the walls of the town. After a naval landing, commander Pemberton’s force of 23 000 met Grant’s force, encircling and overrunning the city, and surprising the Southerners. The ensuing siege resulted in the Union’s control of the lower Mississippi river, after the trapped Confederates surrendered unconditionally. This blocked any avenues for shipping supplies and soldiers for the South, which was extremely important. It also split the Confederacy down the centre, disrupting order and the transfer of information and supplies from east to west. During the same month, General Lee led a force into northern territory and met with Union forces at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. After a three day battle, 50 000 men had died, a stunning blow to the South. The second important turning point of the war was over a year later in August 1864, when the Union general Sherman took Atlanta, a manufacturing and railroad centre. This capture was important politically, rather than militarily, as it was close to the elections of 1864. Lincoln had to re-run for presidency and at the time, was very unpopular with the Northern population because the war was dragging on, and families were losing their sons and fathers. A difficult win, in Atlanta, Sherman besieged the city and when the citizens did not surrender, his troops began the famous March to the Sea, a night time march of terror involving all of Sherman’s command in which the soldiers marched from inland to the city, tearing up railway tracks and destroying all things of value along the way. The March ended in Savannah, where the inhabitants surrendered. With the fall of Atlanta, the public’s view of Lincoln changed putting him in a position of superiority over his democratic opp onent, former top general George McClellan. Lincoln’s  election was an extremely important determinant of the course of the war as Lincoln was determined to have a Union victory, while McClellan did not seem to care which side was victorious, wanting only a settlement with the South. After Lincoln’s electoral victory, both the Union and the Confederates decided to wage total war, rather than the limited war that had been occurring for the last three years. In the mean time, the South was spiralling into despair, suffering under the Union naval blockade, Sherman’s campaign in Georgia, lack of international assistance, class conflicts, and a lack of money. The army began to disband, and as the Confederate leaders realized that all hope was lost, Jefferson Davis proposed peace negotiations. Delegations from the South and the North met at the Hampton Roads Conference in February 1865. Still there was no resolution to the conflict – Lincoln demanded that the South surrender unconditionally, while Davis wanted to be granted full independence. In April 1865, however, the conflict was resolved at the Battle of Appomattox when Grant’s forces broke through Confederate lines headed by Lee, forcing the Southerners into a shameful retreat. Days lat er, Lee surrendered to Grant at the Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia. With this, the Civil War had finally come to an end. The American Civil War involved four gruelling years of conflict in which approximately 680 000 lost their lives. With the northern and southern states completely divided on the issue of slavery and the existence of slavery so intrinsic to the South’s entire economic and social structures, there was much fuel for battle – a battle largely about the right to human freedom and which ultimately lead to the demise of slavery in the United States. The Civil War was a critical part of American history, a defining moment in the future of the nation, and a defining moment in the freedom of all American people henceforth.

An Encounter That Changed My Life Essay

It’s been three years since that ghastly night, it shaped me into what I am now, not being comfortable around the countless people in the street had become a part of me, from a simple walk from my work place to my house makes me unusually un-ease knowing that even though you might have done nothing wrong, there might be someone out to get you. Somebody should have told her, right at the beginning of her life, that she would die so young, so that she could live her life to the full and knowing that her life would end in an abrupt way, but watching it happen, right in front of me changed everything in my life, it changed how I felt about people and left me traumatized. Amy and I where co-workers at the same bank and it was a typical cold night in London. When we left the staff party the streets where already abandoned, looking at my watch, time had passed and it was already nearly 2 o’clock in the morning. Looking at the street the city lights stand out like a busy constellation of streets and houses, quiet but beautiful. It’s impossible to make sense of, except for the main strip which is a single mound of coloured, noisy light. I like that the lights don’t seem to get dimmer as they get farther away. They only get smaller and smaller until they slip behind the bends at the end of the road. It was a rare sight, even though I lived there, I had never admired the beauty of the muted main street and was lost in its marvel. Walking to my car, I almost didn’t realise I was there, lost in my own thoughts I had remained silent all throughout the walk, as if I was scared that I might have disturbed the city’s slumber. Read more:  A Book That Changed My Life I said bye to Amy as she got into her car, and I crossed the road and got into mine and put my seatbelt on and was ready to leave. Everything was still so silent but among the silence an approaching sound of a car that got louder and louder every second, I hadn’t given it any notice until I heard a piercing sound as it passed by Amy’s car, a bullet. Everything happened so quickly I didn’t even get a glimpse of the car; the one that passed had already left my sight. I looked at Amy’s car and the window was shattered and she was nowhere to be seen, I was so shocked my whole body started shaking and as I  fumbled with my seatbelt I opened my car door and rushed to her car, and there she lay, on both seats with blood dripping from her head I opened her car door with panicked hands and grabbed hers and checked for her pulse, and to my great dismay, I felt nothing but the shivers of my own hand. I started shouting but all of my efforts were to no avail. Everything I did to help was of no avail. Nothing worked. I rummaged in my pocket looking for my mobile phone and dialled 911 and explained everything and within minutes, the scene was covered by police officers and first aiders. I was still trembling as one of the police officers took me aside and asked me what happened and I explained in every detail to what had happened and he told me to go home and get some rest, but I knew trying to sleep will be futile. I knew that I wouldn’t sleep that night, nor several nights after that, I was distressed. It wasn’t until months later that they caught the killer and explained Amy’s tragedy to the world and the truth was bloodcurdling. The killer was nothing else than her stalker, he had never talked to Amy, neither did he have any reason to do so, he had once saw her and after that he had spent years researching her, for no reason at all, only that he was jealous of her in way’s only he understood. Everything was so terrifying, he had sites, all her private information and also pictures of Amy all stocked up in his flat. The stalker was so caught up to her he had desires to murder her. This was the horrible fact, Amy was dead and I saw it all unfold in front of my eyes and remained helpless to her death. This encounter had affected me in way’s I couldn’t even believe, for a whole year I was afraid of getting into my car again I was shell-shocked of what had happened. I still had sleepless nights, thinking about the whole scene over and over in my mind, always helpless and knowing that I did nothing to save her, a shadow of guilt lay on me for several months I blamed myself of what happened to Amy, trusting people had become harder for me, knowing that what happened to Amy can happen to myself, the event had left me babbled and everything just got harder and harder. The trauma got heavier and heavier on my shoulders including the guilt that I had given myself. This event showed me, how life can be taken away in a second even by a man who didn’t ever  speak to you. The truth was horrifying. Now, three years later, I started getting over the traumatic event but still everything had changed in me, always observing the crowds, always in fear of what might happen next knowing that all it takes is a bullet and death will follow. This encounter with this stalker had changed me and reformed me into a completely different man; this encounter completely changed my life.
